They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs. Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, “Oh, why can’t you remain like this for ever!” This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. Two is the beginning of the end.

Mrs. Darling first heard of Peter when she was tidying up her children’s minds. It is the nightly custom of every good mother after her children are asleep to rummage in their minds and put things straight for next morning, repacking into their proper places the many articles that have wandered during the day.

If you could keep awake (but of course you can’t) you would see your own mother doing this, and you would find it very interesting to watch her. It is quite like tidying up drawers. You would see her on her knees, I expect, lingering humorously over some of your contents, wondering where on earth you had picked this thing up, making discoveries sweet and not so sweet, pressing this to her cheek as if it were as nice as a kitten, and hurriedly stowing that out of sight. When you wake in the morning, the naughtiness and evil passions with which you went to bed have been folded up small and placed at the bottom of your mind and on the top, beautifully aired, are spread out your prettier thoughts, ready for you to put on.

I don’t know whether you have ever seen a map of a person’s mind. Doctors sometimes draw maps of other parts of you, and your own map can become intensely interesting, but catch them trying to draw a map of a child’s mind, which is not only confused, but keeps going round all the time. There are zigzag lines on it, just like your temperature on a card, and these are probably roads in the island, for the Neverland is always more or less an island, with astonishing splashes of colour here and there, and coral reefs and rakish-looking craft in the offing, and savages and lonely lairs, and gnomes who are mostly tailors, and caves through which a river runs, and princes with six elder brothers, and a hut fast going to decay, and one very small old lady with a hooked nose. It would be an easy map if that were all, but there is also first day at school, religion, fathers, the round pond, needle-work, murders, hangings, verbs that take the dative, chocolate pudding day, getting into braces, say ninety-nine, three-pence for pulling out your tooth yourself, and so on, and either these are part of the island or they are another map showing through, and it is all rather confusing, especially as nothing will stand still.

Of course the Neverlands vary a good deal. John’s, for instance, had a lagoon with flamingoes flying over it at which John was shooting, while Michael, who was very small, had a flamingo with lagoons flying over it. John lived in a boat turned upside down on the sands, Michael in a wigwam, Wendy in a house of leaves deftly sewn together. John had no friends, Michael had friends at night, Wendy had a pet wolf forsaken by its parents, but on the whole the Neverlands have a family resemblance, and if they stood still in a row you could say of them that they have each other’s nose, and so forth. On these magic shores children at play are for ever beaching their coracles [simple boat]. We too have been there; we can still hear the sound of the surf, though we shall land no more.

Of all delectable islands the Neverland is the snuggest and most compact, not large and sprawly, you know, with tedious distances between one adventure and another, but nicely crammed. When you play at it by day with the chairs and table-cloth, it is not in the least alarming, but in the two minutes before you go to sleep it becomes very real. That is why there are night-lights.

Occasionally in her travels through her children’s minds Mrs. Darling found things she could not understand, and of these quite the most perplexing was the word Peter. She knew of no Peter, and yet he was here and there in John and Michael’s minds, while Wendy’s began to be scrawled all over with him. The name stood out in bolder letters than any of the other words, and as Mrs. Darling gazed she felt that it had an oddly cocky appearance.

Auto Transport Brokers http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/auto-transport-brokers/ Mon, 20 Feb 2012 18:01:27 +0000 http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/?p=710 Are Auto Transport Brokers Necessary?
First of all, I want to preface this blog with the fact that our company has been a nationwide auto carrier since 1991. We have paid thousands of dollars in broker fees over the years, and like many other carriers, we have had our share of complaints with brokers charging too much and making promises that they can’t keep. However, we can’t let a few bad brokers skew our understanding of the industry as a whole.

Many wonder why brokers are necessary. Aren’t they just increasing the transport costs? Wouldn’t the industry work much smoother without them? Surprisingly, auto transport brokers are vital to a functioning auto transport industry, despite the bad reputation that a few bad brokers have earned for the whole group. The fact is, most carriers don’t have the time or capabilities to perform the online marketing needed find enough customers to keep their trucks full. Carriers specialize in the trucking side of the business with the skills necessary to maintain a fleet of car haulers. 95% of auto carriers do not even have a website, while most car shipping customers find an auto transport company online. Many customers will ask if we have our own trucks. A better question would be “Do you have a truck on my route?”. Even if they have a truck on your route, they usually only pickup every other week. The odds of a customer finding a carrier working the route they are looking for in the time requirement that they need is next to impossible. You could imagine calling dozens of carriers and asking them if they are going to your destination and if so, will they have a truck in your area on a certain day. Not likely.

Another major reason auto transport brokers are necessary to work as a customer’s representative in case of any problems during the transport, namely delays and car damage. Delays are the biggest problem in the auto transport business. Keep in mind that many of these trucks are hauling ten vehicles. That means a trucker will have to deliver ten cars and pick up another ten in just a few days. With twenty appointments with twenty different customers delays will happen. Brokers have the experience and know how to deal with car carriers directly where most customers have never shipped a car before. The scariest problem in the industry is damaged vehicles. Having your vehicle damaged during transport is pretty rare, but when it happens you want help taking care of the situation. Having a professional broker on your side is very crucial if this is to happen to you. A broker will have a file of the carrier which included their license and insurance certificate. The broker can push the carrier to handle the claim quickly and can give negative ratings to the carrier which will prevent them from being used by other brokers in the future.

Ok, so brokers are important, then why the bad reputation?
Partly because everyone wants to cut out the middle man, and partly because of the broken promises a few bad brokers will make in order to close the deal in this highly competitive market. Consider the “get 10 free quotes instantly” factor and you can imagine the competition that brokers are up against. Most customers just want the lowest quote to ship their vehicle. Therefore, bad brokers will often give bottom rates, but then have trouble turning around and finding a carrier to ship the vehicle at that price. This leads to angry customers waiting longer than expected to have their car shipped.

So how do you stay clear of bad brokers?

  • First, find some reputable auto transport companies online and check their customer reviews on www.transportreviews.com
  • Then, make sure to check their license information with the Department of Transportation or Federal Motor Carrier Association. You will need their DOT# or MC#.
  • Next, I would pay attention to their customer service. Are they professional? Do they pressure you to book the order? Ask how long have they have been in business? Do they have a well maintained website with a professional email address?

In the end it always seems to come down to money, and the question is; will the customer pay the extra $50-$100 initially for a dependable transport. By neglecting the research, many sacrifice dependable transport and simply look at the cheapest rate. Like most products and services, you get what you pay for. Hiring a dependable company with a proven track record will gain not only timely service and a good price, but peace of mind.

Lepke Auto Transport works hard to give you a very competitive price for transporting your vehicle without sacrificing the quality and customer service that you desire. Request a free quote today!

When Is The Best Time To Ship My Car? http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/when-is-the-best-time-to-ship-my-car/ Fri, 06 May 2011 17:28:24 +0000 http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/?p=385 With the spring in full swing, many snowbirds are heading home which leads to chaos in the car shipping industry. April and May are peak season for car shipping with thousands of cars heading north from Florida, Arizona and California. For the unaware customer, this can cause major headaches when trying to relocate their vehicle while competing with the snowbird rush. Rates can increase as much as $200-$300 for a single vehicle.

This leads customers to ask, “When is the best time to ship my car?”. Obviously not during snowbird season, or is it? Actually, the best rates are during snow bird season, but shipping your car in the opposite direction. So, the best time to ship your vehicle South is during the spring, and ship your vehicle North during the fall.  For example, shipping a regular sedan from Florida to Chicago most the year may be around $650. However, in the spring that can go up to $850 or $900, but in the fall down the rate may drop to $500. If you’re shipping your vehicle East to West or vice versa, there isn’t a big difference.

It’s also important to know how long the peak season lasts. Spring is much more difficult to get a car shipped because most of the snowbirds are returning home in only two months, April and May. While in the fall they head south over four months, October through January. Therefore the rate increase for spring tends to be much higher than the fall. Also note, because of sheer volume of cars heading North from Florida to the Northeast (NY, NJ, MA), the backlog of vehicles can run well into June.

So, to wrap it all up, remember the snowbirds. The best time to ship your car is when the snowbirds are going in the opposite direction. Head south in the spring and north in the fall. This will allow  you the best rates and quick service. I know that most people don’t have the luxury of waiting for months to get the best rates, but at least I hope this blog may explain to the unfortunate customer why his auto transport is unusually high in the spring.

Lepke Auto Transport are experts in navigating the chaos of the car shipping industry. No matter what season, or what time limit you need your vehicle shipped, we can accommodate your shipping needs. Give us a call or request a quote on our website.

Snowbird Special Spring 2011 http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/snowbird-special-spring-2011/ Thu, 17 Mar 2011 19:12:16 +0000 http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/?p=378 Florida to Chicago Expedited Car Shipping Service $850
As you may know, April and May is the peak season for retirees returning North for the summer months. This leads to a large demand for auto transporters in Florida to many highly populated areas in the northern states. Many customers come to Lepke Auto Transport with bad experiences of other auto shipping companies letting their cars sit for weeks before being able to get it on a carrier back North. Don’t get caught on a long waiting list to ship your car this spring.

Lepke Auto Transport is offering a special service this spring to our customers on the Florida to Chicago route. We have a transporter who is able to make the trip in 2-3 days! That’s right, you can have your car shipped from Florida to the Chicago Metro area in 2-3 days for only $850. That’s only $100 above the normal April and May rates. There is limited space available, so book your order now!

Rising Fuel Costs Lead to Higher Vehicle Transport Quotes http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/rising-fuel-costs-lead-to-higher-vehicle-transport-quotes/ Thu, 10 Mar 2011 22:15:47 +0000 http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/?p=370 What Potential Car Shippers Need to Know

As of March 7, 2011 the US average for Diesel Fuel was $3.87, an increase of $0.97 over a year ago. The fuel price increase was slow but steady until mid-February when they began to sky rocket. Two weeks after this spike, the car shipping industry started to react with rates drastically impacted anywhere from $50 to $200 depending on the route.

In our years of experience at Lepke Auto Transport,  we have noticed when diesel fuel gets above $3.50 per gallon many small vehicle transport companies stop operating for a while or shut down altogether. This leads to a backlog of vehicles waiting to be shipped, especially for larger vehicles such as SUVs and Pickups. It’s important to understand that on routes over 1000 miles a vehicle transport company will use an 8-10 car hauler. These car haulers can only fit two large vehicles, the rest have to be a variety of car sizes. This leads to many SUVs and pickups experiencing longer than normal wait times for shipment.

Especially in times when fuel rates are up, be careful of going with the lowest quote. Your vehicle may end up waiting for an extended period of time before an auto transporter is willing to pick it up at that low price. At Lepke Auto Transport, we try our best to give car shipping quotes that will satisfy both the customer and the auto transporter.

Finding the right company to ship your car http://www.lepkeautotrans.com/finding-the-right-company/ Mon, 22 Mar 2010 12:12:12 +0000 http://lepkedraftsite.ithands.com/finding-the-right-company-to-ship-your-car-2/ 6 Little Know Facts about the Car Shipping Industry
Whether you are relocating or purchasing a car over the Internet, finding a reliable company to ship your vehicle can be a daunting task. You want to make a quality decision by researching your options, but where do you start? Here are six transport industry facts that will help you understand to look for:

1. Auto transport companies consist of carriers and brokers.
Carriers are the companies that actually own the trucks to transport your vehicle, and brokers are the “middle men” that help connect customers and carriers. Both are required to have a motor carrier license (MC #) which you should find on their company website.

2. All auto transport companies must possess licensing and insurance.
The carrier is required to have liability, cargo, and collision insurance to protect the customer in the case of an accident, while the broker must be bonded to ensure the customer will be covered in case the carrier’s insurance proves insufficient or problematic. Most car carriers with an online presence will also broker out vehicles when they do not have a truck available for the transport.

3. If a company is licensed and insured or bonded, consider experience and customer feedback.
Many carriers will proudly mention on their website how long they have been in the business. However, the broker market tends to be more volatile with companies coming and going on a regular basis. The start-up costs for a car carrier company are much higher than a broker with new car carriers costing over $200k.

4. Transportreviews.com is an excellent place to find customer reviews.
The ease of feedback is vital to the integrity of the industry. Other feedback venues such as Google local ads and Yelp.com are also available for reviewing transport companies. These public reviews can either affirm or contradict the testimonies on a company’s website.

5. Once you have narrowed your search to a few companies, get quotes.
Acquire the relevant shipping info, given your projected move dates. If you are planning to transport a vehicle before a flight, always schedule a pickup date at least two days ahead as delays are common in the trucking industry. This will increase your chances for having the vehicle picked up in the expected time frame. Many companies will ask you to make a deposit up front, but it is possible to find a company that does not charge you until the vehicle is dispatched or picked up.

6. About those free quotes…
I recommend against using websites that give multiple free quotes at one time. One reason for not using this service is the fact that you will have anywhere from 8-15 companies calling and emailing you for the next two weeks. Also, these brokers under heavy competition often quote too low, and then have trouble finding a carrier to ship the car within the customer’s requested time frame. The Internet is full of horror stories about people choosing the quote with the lowest possible price. If you’re desperate, the gamble may suit you, but many would agree that it’s just not worth it. I would recommend looking for an experienced company that is both a carrier and broker, as these companies seem to understand the industry best from working on both ends. A good transport company will have no problem finding a carrier at a competitive price.

To ensure that your vehicle transport experience is a smooth and satisfactory one, remember to make sure that the auto transport company you use is licensed and bonded or insured, experienced and well-reviewed. You will need a credit card to book an order, but you always have the right to ask the company not to charge payment until a confirmed pickup date is assigned with a driver’s info given.
