FAQs
Q. How far in advance do I need to book my car for transport?
Most customers book their car at least a week before the transport date. However, expedited shipping is available. Transports needed within two days of booking may require an expediting fee. We will schedule a carrier to pick up and deliver according to your needs.
Q. Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. All carriers used by Lepke Auto transport have a minimum of $250k cargo coverage. Lepke Auto Transport is also bonded as a broker as a precautionary measure to ensure the vehicles are “double protected”.
Q. What preparations are necessary before shipping my vehicle?
To prepare your vehicle for transport, please do not have any heavy objects inside and make sure windows do not have an obstructed view. Most drivers will allow up to 100 lbs inside the trunk of the vehicle. However, car carriers are only authorized to ship vehicles and not household items, so technically they can deny shipping personal items.
Q. How do I pay for my car to be transported?
There will be a security deposit taken over the phone when you book your car. The remaining balance will be due upon delivery of your vehicle. If you would like to make other payment arrangements please advise your representative when you book the order.
Q. What does “door to door” mean?
The transport driver will try to get as close to your door as possible to pick up and deliver your vehicle. In some cases, especially in residential neighborhoods, a large car hauler is not permitted down side streets. Please remember that many of these car haulers are 80,000 lbs, 80ft long, and very low to the ground. To protect vehicles being transported and to obey traffic laws, the transport driver may ask you to bring your car to a nearby parking lot that is more accessible.
Q. What happens if my vehicle is damaged during transport?
This rarely happens, but if it does, please notify us right away so that we can contact the carrier and their insurance company to file an insurance claim. The driver will do an inspection upon delivery and you are required to sign this inspection. It will simplify the claim process if you record the damages on the inspection sheet before signing the release of your vehicle. This will provide the insurance company with proper documentation of the damage.
Q. How long does a transport typically take?
Coast to coast is approximately 7-10 days. A North – South route is about 5-7 days.
